We introduce a structured light technique called Micro Phase Shifting, which overcomes these problems. The key idea is to project sinusoidal patterns with frequencies limited to a narrow, high-frequency band. These patterns produce a set of images over which global illumination and defocus effects remain constant for each point in the scene.
Gupta et al. (2012) introduced micro phase shifting, which projected sinusoidal patterns with frequencies limited in a narrow and high frequency band. However, highfrequency illuminations reduce the contrast of the projected patterns, thereby leading to higher errors especially when subsurface scattering dominates. ... ...
In Micro Phase Shifting, since all the frequencies belong to a narrow high-frequency band, all the phase maps have ambiguities. A single unambiguous phase map is computed using the Gushov-Solodkin algorithm . Here, this is illustrated using a V-groove.
Conventional phase shifting techniques face two serious limitations. First, existing techniques assume that scene points are only directly illuminated by the light source. As a result, they recover erroneous shapes for scenes that have global illumination (e.g., interreflections and subsurface scattering).
d.1. IntroductionPhase shifting is one of the most widely used shape measureme t techniques . Because of its precision and low cost, it is applied in surgery, factory automa-tion and digitization of cultural heritage. Like all active scene recovery techniques, phase shifting assumes that scene points are only directly illuminated b
e.1.2. BackgroundPhase shifting belongs to the class of active stereo triang lation techniques. The simplest setup for these techniques consists of a proj ctor and a camera. Depth of a scene point is computed by intersecting rays from the corresponding projector
