Battery types Lead-acid batteries are one of the oldest and most widely used battery types. They consist of lead plates immersed in an electrolyte solution of sulfuric acid. Typical applications for these batteries include automobiles, uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), and other systems that demand reliable energy storage.

Compared to modern rechargeable batteries, lead–acid batteries have relatively low energy density. Despite this, they are able to supply high surge currents.

Absorbent Glass Mat (AGM) is a type of non-woven separator material comprised almost entirely of glass microfibre that absorbs and retains the electrolyte, leaving no free electrolyte in the cell to spill.
