Once it's up to temperature it won't use much energy maintaining it. Cycling the battery at higher temperatures also reduces degradation, so if your doing a long trip it might be worth activating pre-heating even if not planning on rapid charging but this is a complicated question of costs Vs benefit.
Pre-heating the battery will have no advantage unless it gets a lot colder as the amount of battery used will be greater than the range advantage and the battery heats up as its used. Thanks for the insight. I wonder how much battery percentage drops for that 10 minutes cabin heating before the journey. It would be ideal if i start with a 100% SOC.
Pre-heating the battery will have no advantage unless it gets a lot colder as the amount of battery used will be greater than the range advantage and the battery heats up as its used. The pre-heat of the cabin might not work if the car is plugged in but not charging so you might have to nip out and disconnect the charger.
Battery preconditioning causes the battery heating system to activate when a charging station is entered into the built-in navigation so that the car arrives at the charger with a warm battery capable of much faster charging than without preconditioning.
Depending on the analysis, the system will either heat or cool the battery. If it’s too cold, the system warms up the battery to maintain efficiency. Conversely, if it’s too hot, the system will cool the battery to prevent overheating. 4. Charging Optimization
Re. battery heating whilst plugged in ... my experience is that (like with cabin pre-heating) the car must be actively charging for battery heating to work whilst plugged in. If the wall box is in standby mode waiting for a signal from the car then battery heating (at least via the app) won't start. Doing some very rough calculations...
