... At this time, the more promising materials for the positive (cathode) electrode of lithium ion batteries (LIB) in terms of electrochemical properties and safety has been the lithium iron phosphate, LiFePO4 (LPF), powders.
We present a review of the structural, physical, and chemical properties of both the bulk and the surface layer of lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) as a positive electrode for Li-ion batteries. Depending on the mode of preparation, different impurities can poison this material.
A lithium-iron-phosphate battery refers to a battery using lithium iron phosphate as a positive electrode material, which has the following advantages and characteristics. The requirements for battery assembly are also stricter and need to be completed under low-humidity conditions.
Like any other battery, Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO4) battery is made of power-generating electrochemical cells to power electrical devices. As shown in Figure 1, the LiFePO4 battery consists of an anode, cathode, separator, electrolyte, and positive and negative current collectors.
In the discharge process, the lithium ions in the negative electrode migrate to the positive electrode through the separator. It is named after the lithium ions migrating back and forth in the charge-discharge process. The nominal voltage of the LiFePO 4 battery is 3.20 V, and the termination charging voltage is 3.60 V.
