Heterojunction solar cells (HJT), variously known as Silicon heterojunctions (SHJ) or Heterojunction with Intrinsic Thin Layer (HIT), are a family of photovoltaic cell technologies based on a heterojunction formed between semiconductors with dissimilar band gaps.
Heterojunction solar panels are assembled similarly to standard homojunction modules, but the singularity of this technology lies in the solar cell itself. To understand the technology, we provide you with a deep analysis of the materials, structure, manufacturing, and classification of the HJT panels.
On the back side, an electron collecting stack is used, and it is composed of an intrinsic a-Si:H passivation layer, a doped n-type amorphous silicon (both deposited by PECVD), a TCO layer and a metallic contacting layer (deposited by PVD). Silicon heterojunction (SHJ) solar cells have reached high power conversion efficiency owing to their effective passivating contact structures. Improvements in the optoelectronic properties of these contacts can enable higher device efficiency, thus further consolidating the commercial potential of SHJ technology.
