Regulation 19 imposes requirements to prevent access to high voltage overhead conductors and to fix safety signs to supports for overhead lines (see Schedule 1). Regulation 20 relates to stay wires for supports carrying overhead lines. Part VI (regulations 21 and 22) contains provisions relating to generation.
There may be more than one Capacitor Bank in a High Voltage circuit (i.e. Bank A, B, C) type registered device for the purpose of discharging a Capacitor Unit which may be Charged. Type Registered lead used for short-circuiting an individual Capacitor Unit.
A Capacitor Stack may contain Capacitor Unit(s) from one or more discrete components of the Capacitor Bank. An assembly of one or more Capacitor Stack(s) as part of an High Voltage Circuit (i.e. MSCDN, SVC, etc). There may be more than one Capacitor Bank in a High Voltage circuit (i.e. Bank A, B, C)
High voltage systems associated with healthcare and social services premises vary considerably in size and complexity. The procedures advocated in this document therefore cannot cover every circumstance and consequently may, in specific instances, need to be supplemented by local written procedures.
However, in certain conditions e.g. fuse and discharge resistor failure, there is a potential for the Capacitor Unit voltage to remain at a value up to approximately 20 kV, dependent on the Capacitor Bank type and rating. The closure of Shorting Switch(es), if fitted, in this instance does not discharge the faulty Capacitor Unit.
Where (a) is not practicable, the high voltage electrical equipment should be tested to ensure that it is dead and should then be discharged and earthed by an approved earthing lead applied by means of a pole or other approved method in accordance with this document.
