From pv magazine France French PV module manufacturers Carbon and Holosolis said this week that they have both filed requests for construction permits to build 5 GW solar cell and module manufacturing facilities in France. The two companies are expected to invest more than €600 million ($641.3 million) each.
“By mid-2026, the production of photovoltaic panels and cells will start, with ultimately more than 10 million panels produced in France to serve our country and Europe,” said Holosolis CEO Jacob Boom-Wichers. Holosolis plans to build its facility in Hambach, near Sarreguemines, northwestern France.

France PV Industry: an ambitious photovoltaic industrial project to accelerate the ecological transition in France. Key players in French solar, the Alsatian industrialist Voltec Solar and the Photovoltaic Institute of Île-de-France (IPVF) are joining forces to give birth to a new photovoltaic industrial sector.
To build in France and Europe a set of gigafactories for wafers, cells and photovoltaic modules, capable of producing 5 GW in 2025 and more than 20 GW by 2030, by integrating the core of the value chain, from ingot growth to the assembly of photovoltaic modules.
It is likely to shake up the competitive landscape and France is today ahead, provided that industrial deployment, which is intended to be ambitious, takes place. This is one of the conditions for success in photovoltaics. » assures Lucas Weiss, general manager of Voltec Solar.
