However, improper disposal or recycling of solar panels containing lead can result in the release of lead into the environment, causing potential toxicity during their end-of-life stage. It’s important to note that the risks associated with these toxic materials are primarily related to the end-of-life stage of solar panels.
In other words, from an environmental point of view, insufficient toxicity and risk information exists for solar cells.
Current and emerging photovoltaic modules may include small amounts of toxics. Global toxicity characterization policies for photovoltaic devices are compared. Sampling approach, particle size, and methods cause leachate result variability. Limitations of current assessment procedures and regulations are disclosed.
