The search was then performed using Uppsala University’s Library database and Google scholar which cover a wide range of articles and sources. Three methods for welding batteries were given in the template, being laser beam-, ultrasonic-, and resistance spot welding.
The purpose of this project is to conduct a comparative literature study of different welding techniques for welding batteries. The compared techniques are resistance spot welding, laser beam welding and ultrasonic welding. The performance was evaluated in terms of numerous factors such as production cost, degree of automation and weld quality.
Battery cells are most often put into modules or packs when produced for electrically driven vehicles. The variable of greatest influence when welding battery packs is the contact resistance between the cell and the connection tab. It is crucial to minimize this variable as much as possible to prevent energy loss in the form of heat generation.
4.1.2 Effect on the battery cell Small-scale resistance welding is often the preferred method for joining Li–ion batteries into battery packs. This process ensures strong joints with an almost complete elimination of the heat impact on the joined workpieces during a short time.
