The £130 million UK Battery Industrialisation Centre (UKBIC) is a pioneering concept in the race to develop battery technology for the transition to a greener future. The unique facility provides the missing link between battery technology, which has proved promising at laboratory or prototype scale, and successful mass production.
It represents a UK Government investment of £610 million between 2017 and 2025. It supports the UK’s world-class battery facilities along with growing innovative businesses that are developing the battery supply chain for our future prosperity.
By 2040, the Faraday Institution estimates that the battery industry could support 170,000 jobs nationally in the automotive industry and a further 100,000 jobs in battery manufacturing and the wider battery supply chain.
