The lead–acid battery is a type of rechargeable battery first invented in 1859 by French physicist Gaston Planté. It is the first type of rechargeable battery ever created. Compared to modern rechargeable batteries, lead–acid batteries have relatively low energy density. Despite this, they are able to supply high surge currents.
Lead–acid batteries were used to supply the filament (heater) voltage, with 2 V common in early vacuum tube (valve) radio receivers. Portable batteries for miners' cap headlamps typically have two or three cells. Lead–acid batteries designed for starting automotive engines are not designed for deep discharge.
Battery date codes are alphanumeric characters indicating the manufacturing date of batteries. Understanding these codes can extend battery life and ensure safety. Techniques for deciphering different types of battery date codes across various brands. Variations in date coding for car batteries, electronic devices, and more.
Throughout the life of any Lead Acid vehicle battery the capacity will slowly reduce due to aging effects and usage. At the end of battery life, the lack of capacity and subsequent drop in voltage may cause electrical error codes. When a new battery is fitted any error codes caused by the old battery could remain.
Generally, these codes consist of letters and numbers, each representing specific details about the manufacturing date. For instance, a code reading “A012” could mean that the battery was manufactured in January of a year ending with 2 (such as 2012 or 2022), with “A” often representing the month.
